This photo recently awarded the John Whifield King Award for best people pic in WA.
This is part of the Wandana project. We are currently photographing residents of the 1950 heritage listed housing apartments asking them to answer three questions.
John has battled schizophrenia most of his life. He as a and confident man who has tackled this difficult condition with true grit. John on with his life in a positive manner than many without the condition.
When Odelia asked John what has given him the most fulfillment in his life, John slumped and said, feel like my life has been a waste. It been like banging my head against a brick wall (Referring to Schizophrenia).
Surprisingly, the rest of the shoot was a happy one and we left, inspired by John honesty and courage.
Annually the WA division of the Australian Institutue of Photography holds an year the black tie was held at The Duxton Hotel it was a little bit fancy, moncler pas cher, which is just how we photographers like it because it not everyday that we get to dress up in our industry, suits for the men and gowns for the women.
This year Cavill and Odelia (son and daugher of Garry) entered photos of their own into the awards aswell as Garry who entered something a little out of his ordinary (one of the Wandana porttraits), to which he was awarded a very prestigious award The John WhitfieldKing award.
John WhitfieldKing died in 1990 of 'motor neurone disease' at the age of 50. 'JWK's life long dedication to his photography was matched only by his natural talent and intense attention to his work. John was without doubt the most naturally gifted and visually literate photographer of his generation. He was a pioneer photographer. His insightful 'people pics' leave a legacy that has lived on decades after professional photography lost one of its most important contributors.
