It’s elegant – they company minimizes their investment and maximizes their profits. Happy stockholders, big CEO bonus. Nothing could be clearer. Unfortunately, one of the two drugs is phentermine. Granted I tend to see the worst of the side effects, the worst of the problems and complications — things like psychosis and hallucinations. Gastrointestinal side effects are unpleasant, but probably not the most concerning. What worries me most are the cardiac side effects associated with not just this, but virtually every prescription drug that has ever purported to help weight loss.
This is of course, the cheapest way to get a new product on the market and eliminate R&D costs as well as testing for safety and efficacy. The company takes two separate FDA-approved agents and combines – kind of like making Frankenstein out of left-over body parts.
Whatever causes obesity, it is NOT a congenital lack of amphetamine-like substances that kick up metabolism. But let’s not forget about the second drug that is in the Qnexa combo – Topiramate.

To paraphrase some recent political campaigns, the FDA was against Qnexa before they were for it.
It is said that common sense is not common, and that is the very reason so many unscrupulous people can make money from other peoples’ misery.

I’m generalizing of course. A few of us know what causes obesity and how to treat it safely and without drugs. After all, I did it on myself so I think I’m qualified to be called an expert in this field.
Call me a radical – a Renegade Doctor — I believe in the scientific method; observation, hypothesis, and the like, and I stand here a human witness that everybody else is wrong and I’m right. People feel better and get well after they see me – unlike their usual experiences with doctors.
Sometimes, there isn’t much additional risk to carrying around extra weight. You need to find out where you really are in danger and when you are not. Be bold – ask: “How likely am I to die or get serious illness because of being as overweight as I am?” Get a number. Compare it to the number, or percent of people who have problems with the drug. I cannot and will not ever give prescription medications for weight loss. I do not think this is the way.
Mostly everything that makes your metabolism run faster has always had as a side-effect the threat of making a heart beat quickly and/or irregularly. I mean, a lot of things have these dangers. I remember when I weighed about twice what I weigh now,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], an endocrinologist wanted to put me on Modafinil. I was chubby to be sure, but fully functional — working for a living and moving a bit and not having a major specter of sudden death hovering over me. That was a side effect of this medication, which the doctors were aggressively pushing, and the patients were eagerly taking, but which I obviously never took.
It’s a sad fact that a lot of treatments for mental illness make the patients gain weight – some dangerously so.
But most people out there are nutritionists in one way or another and they pass along the politically-correct (and deadly inaccurate) information that is blessed by the government, the insurance companies and the mainstream medical community.

Then – as the politicians say – they did a “Flip Flop.” This No-Vowel remedy QNEXA (ok,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it has a couple of vowels, but not enough) is not actually a drug – it is a combination of two drugs.
Drugs on top of drugs – drugs to take care of the problems caused by drugs. How often the medical trade gets started down this slippery slope. More than one patient, when I asked what it felt like to take this, told me it made food taste like cardboard. So something that I still believe should essentially be a pleasure to all becomes, well, “cardboard.”
People make money off the misery of obesity. I was in denial of it for many years. I was more tired and more miserable than I could have admitted. I was even seriously ill, sometimes hospitalized and comatose. The best way I have to help people is to tell my story,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and I will tell it continuously until more people hear me and follow. It seems to be hard for a lot of the people I talk to, especially the ones I am close to. Even though they can see the truth of what I preach, I’m just “Plain Old Estelle” and they knew me when.
Of course, one loses the urge to eat if one is on a steady diet of cardboard. Weight loss – and malnutrition – will surely follow.

As for weight loss surgery, ask the same questions, with one more. “What is probability the weight will come back after the surgery?”

Tell a 500 lb. person that they will only weigh 450 lbs. and see how happy they really are. Patients are usually too intimidated or in awe of their doctors (nurse practitioners, Physician’s Assistants, et al.) to ask the really hard questions.
Unless they see old pictures of me,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], overweight patients (and really,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], anybody I meet who is heavy) tell me they cannot believe I was once heavy. They think I don’t know what it is like. They think I’m one of those skinny diet gurus that you see on TV and who write those bogus books.
The conventional wisdom is the route to failure, and it is handed down by trusted people,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], those in authority, those people who intimidate the lowly masses.
Unfortunately, most of the people who treat obesity don’t know what causes it, so they prescribe treatment for the symptoms. They say silly things like, “only eat salads” and “get a lot of exercise” and if they are Medical Doctors, they might write prescriptions for the only FDA approved drugs for obesity – which all carry dire warnings about horrible side-effects and possible death.
Of course,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], besides the “wonderful” side effect of losing weight, many patients reported dizziness and neurological side effects – even at lower doses. Are patients (and doctors and nutritionists) really afraid of the dangers of obesity, or are they caving in to pressure from patients who want to be sexy and not gain weight?
If you are at all familiar with human nature, I’m sure you know the answer.
Every medication prescription should be reviewed with the patient to make sure they understand the risks as well as the benefits. Maybe, like they say, it looks like you can weigh as much as 10% less with this drug combo.
This Qnexa is half of the infamous “Fen-phen.” Someone just has to compare the numbers. I decided back then I was more likely to die with the drug than without it. Granted, I took a while to solve my own weight problem, but eventually I did figure it out and I am around and able to type and rant. Ideally a medical treatment should be etiological. That means that you find out what causes something and then you can come up with a really effective treatment.
And if you dare, even another question: “What other problems could I have with weight loss surgery, like inability to absorb nutrients or vitamins?” Every single person I’ve seen who has had any type of bariatric surgery has suffered complications from malnutrition and vitamin deficiencies.

If you have not yet developed this dynamic practice of writing down your yearly goals (and I suggest also using a monthly planner and break down big goals to smaller steps), 2013 is not yet here,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], so this could be your time!
Now that you can be a little kinder to yourself if you have not accomplished everything you wanted to do professionally (and/or personally) last year, what can you do differently for 2013? My first suggestion is to take some contemplative time to choose what areas you may want to work on, and what you can realistically accomplish in one year. Then use the secret that most successful registered nurses and other professional people have discovered: write your goals down!

Why are written goals helpful for dynamic professional and work/life balance growth,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]?
1) Redefine not completing some of your goals. List which goals were fully met, which were partially met and which are still “in progress”.
2) Be gentle with yourself,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Know you are still living in integrity with high achieving values as you have made an effort to move forward with your career and work/life balance goals,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
3) Identify whether time/energy constraints have kept you from finishing all of your “promises”, and if you might need to re-prioritize some of your goals at least for right now.
4) Allow yourself to “roll over” some of your incomplete goals to the next year. I needed to continue working on eating more healthily and maintaining an exercise schedule more regularly,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], for an example.
5) Be realistic that some behavioral change goals may take more than one year to accomplish,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], such as better time management,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or other work/life goals (like number 4 above).
Since I was taught as a child to “always keep your promises” I could easily have felt like a failure as a result,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Write down your professional and work/life balance goals, remember even partially completing goals is still a huge accomplishment and make this your best year yet!
1) If you write down your goals they become more real and tangible.
2) Clarifying,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], then writing your goals helps to keep you focused on what is most important for you to accomplish.
3) It is easier to measure your progress and you can more easily honor your efforts towards their completion,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
4) You can celebrate when you achieve a goal—or a step towards a large goal.
5) You can review your goas daily (or at least weekly) to stay motivated,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and if you wish, it is easier to share them with a supportive friend (emphasis on “supportive”). I have a buddy coach so I suggest you pick someone who cares about you to both help you stay motivated and celebrate your achievements with you.
Hope that wasn’t a stress producing question. I learned some time ago that an all-or-nothing answer is probably not the most productive one! For 2012 I committed to fourteen both professional and work/life balance goals. Totally completing all fourteen of them, did not happen! I did complete ten of them and at least partially attained two of the other four. Being a high achiever, only partially achieving what I prefer to call my year-long “promises” was at first a bit disappointing.

I have not always been very good at dancing with burnt toast, sick kids and rainy vacations or the memories of my past abuse,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], because I have usually seen these occurrences as personal failures and blamed myself for their having happened. I would then proceed to spend a lot of mental energy on punishing myself for my failure as a mother, cook, vacation-planner, child, etc. Yes, I might have been responsible for burning the toast and even for weakening my son's immune system a bit by letting him stay wet too long after swimming, but my vacation plans probably didn't cause the rain! As a child, I certainly made mistakes, but they were not the reason I was abused. Mistakes are inevitable, but it is my attitude towards them that will make the difference. If I keep in mind that Babe Ruth held the record for strikeouts in his day, Michael Jordan was paid quite a bit of money despite the fact he missed some baskets, and even Pavorotti and Cecilia Bartoli miss notes when they sing, then I have a better perspective on my own mistakes. I want also to keep in mind that the only real failure is not accepting responsibility for learning or growing from our missteps along the path of Life.

2. I want to lighten up and dance with life.
I just simply take things too seriously and too personally. While I am an advocate for taking responsibility for one's life,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I know I have shouldered far too many burdens not meant for me to bear. One of the goals I have is to learn how to live more joyfully even when things are not going my way. I truly believe there is someone else in charge of the Universe, and so I need to act like it and enjoy what has been created! In order to truly lighten up and dance with Life, I know we need to accept that Life is perfect as it is. My coach recently pointed out that Life is perfect if my perspective is broad enough to allow for burnt toast and sick kids and rainy vacations. However, as a childhood sexual abuse survivor,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the concept of "the present is perfect" is sometimes very hard for me to accept, because even though my present life is worthy of lightness and dancing, my past (and the present of too many others) is not conducive to lightheartedness. When I am not feeling sorry for myself,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I do recall many joyful days from my childhood and a sense that I had a guardian angel that would eventually lead me out of harm's way. Even when life doesn't seem perfect to us humans,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I have a feeling the Creator does have a plan for our Universe, and ultimately it will wind up to be good. Life is difficult, but I think approaching it with an attitude of joyfulness will make it less of a burden to bear and more of a challenging journey to experience.
1. I want to be toleration-free.
When I coach someone, one of the first questions I ask is, "What are you tolerating?" and then I try to help him/her set up a plan for eliminating tolerations from his/her life. This concept isn't about being intolerant or prejudiced of others different from ourselves. Eliminating tolerations is all about getting rid of the attitudes and/or situations in our lives that are harming us or blocking us from growing in some way. If we are tolerating something or someone that is not healthy for us physically, mentally, or spiritually, we are creating an environment in which we are unable to be all we were meant to be. We are unable to serve others well if we are not taking good care of ourselves. For example, I recently closed my massage therapy business and quit teaching at our local college. They were safe and secure part-time jobs, but I was tolerating too many things, including my boredom with massage and frustrations with disinterested students, in the name of a regular income. While it is scary to be building up a new business, it is also tremendously energizing to be free from two income sources that were tolerations for me. (Note: Don't quit your job unless you have reserve money in the bank! Eliminating tolerations requires a PLAN!)

Paste of fenugreek leaves applied in the night and washed in the morning with lukewarm water is a very good preventive remedy for acne. -If you are looking to enhance your health or improve a condition, looking at the supplements that were used in studies that showed benefit is the best solution.

The answer to this question is it depends.
